The paper considers the classification of the contemporary methods for solving the problem of automation of the design of the assembly process. Task relevance is substantiated by the authors. The main problems in solving this task are formulated and analyzed. An assembly model of a device for servicing deployable space structures within the automation of the design of the technological process of assembling this product is described. Design constraints imposed on the assembly, connections between parts, as well as distinctive features that affect the assembly process and the formation of the assembly sequence are described. The assembly sequence of the device, which is planned to be obtained as a result of the execution of a program based on the developed algorithm, is proposed. A description of the operation of the algorithm and its features is given. Also, the paper proposes classifications of assembly connections, from the points of view of technological and design limitations, which allow forming criteria for selecting the most rational assembly sequence from among the possible ones.
