Development of A Thread Milling Cutters Design System with Consideration of Their Manufacturing Technology

A technological approach to the design of the end comb thread milling cutters is proposed. It involves the tool design in accordance with the operation step of tool manufacturing on CNC grinding machines. This enabled the development of a thread milling cutter design system, which, based on mathematical dependencies combined with a number of numerical solutions, allows the development of a technologically advanced thread milling cutter design for forming internal metric threads of an accepted accuracy level, with the ability to automatically obtain the tool drawing and accompanying documentation for setting up the machining operation. To verify the software product, measurements and further calculations were carried out in the design system of the Sandvik Coromill Plura R217.15-140100AC26N thread milling cutter, confirming the correctness of the program. The thread profile errors inherent in the use of the technological approach in the design of thread milling cutters were identified, allowing them to be minimized when designing in the proposed program.
