Sexual harassment is a pervasive and often overlooked problem in the medical and academic sectors. In a profession such as medicine, which is built on trust, compassion, and ethical standards, sexual harassment undermines these core values and creates a toxic environment that can negatively affect both practitioners and patients. This chapter explores the prevalence, impact, and systemic factors that contribute to sexual harassment in medicine. By examining institutional culture, power dynamics, and barriers to reporting, this chapter suggests ways in which the medical profession must evolve to ensure a safe and respectful workplace for all individuals. It also discusses the importance of training, policies, and effective support systems in addressing and preventing sexual harassment in medicine, and ultimately advocates for cultural change.
