The Indonesian Government has implemented the Climate Village Program (ProKlim) to address climate change and promote community involvement. The program aims to build climate resilience, reduce emissions, and improve local welfare. To implement ProKlim, PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional—Refinery Unit III (Pertamina) appointed a “Local Hero” to facilitate communication and implementation. This strategy is crucial due to Indonesia’s high-power distance culture. The research reveals that empowering local-level leadership, represented by “Local Heroes,” has significantly enhanced empowerment and accessibility through the climate village program. The study method is a survey on the activities of the climate village programme by PT Kilang Pertamina International—Refinery Unit III (Pertamina) in Talangbubuk Village, Plaju District, Palembang, South Sumatra. The results showed that the role of local heroes contributed significantly to the improvement of empowerment and accessibility through the climate village program. These local heroes are able to provide leadership to the community related to the climate village program. They are able to bridge the gap between PT Pertamina and the community related to the agreed program. These leaders bridge the gap between Pertamina and the community, fostering ownership and responsibility toward the climate village facilities. The program’s success extends to environmental, economic, and social aspects, addressing climate change challenges and fostering community development. The success has led to replication by other Pertamina subsidiaries, contributing to the nation’s sustainable development goals.
