Design of a Locally Manufactured, Efficient and Robust Multi-crop Slicer
摘要
The development of a multi-crop slicing machine that is affordable and effective was achieved in this study. The machine was fabricated using locally sourced materials. Although hand slicing is the cheapest, it has proved to be labour-intensive, time-wasting, and hazardous. This necessitated the design and development of a multi-crop slicing machine in this study. The machine’s capacity for the opportunity crop was used as a case study, and the average slicing time was calculated. The machine has a low labour requirement and power consumption. The machine uses an electric motor as the prime mover in rural and urban cities where electricity supply is available. The machine can be adjusted to use engines as energy sources in rural areas where electricity supply is unavailable. The machine was made of stainless steel for the slicing section and mild steel for the other components. The machine has an overall efficiency of 91.05%, with a throughput capacity of 150–200 kg/h. Integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) enabled real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and performance optimization. A parametric analysis of the machine’s efficiency, energy consumption, and durability was conducted. The estimated budget for this study is One million three hundred and forty-eight thousand four hundred Naira (N1,348,400.00) only.
