Costa Rica stands as the last remaining Catholic state in Latin America. In recent years, there has been a growing call for the country to transition to a secular state. However, a closer examination of Costa Rica’s religious policy reveals only minor instances of favoritism toward Catholicism and limited cases of discrimination against minority religions. Comparative research indicates that Costa Rica largely adheres to international standards of religious freedom (see Petri, 2022).
