Perspectives of Young Adults of a Professional Youth Mentoring Program
摘要
Long-term, paid, professional mentorship programs are rare. There is emerging evidence that mentorship is a viable mechanism for improving quality of life and opportunities for success for children and teens. Far less is known about the experience of mentorship from the youth's perspective. With that awareness, the current investigation completed 12 semi-structured qualitative interviews examining young adults’ experiences of mentorship. Interviews were coded using a rapid qualitative analysis approach. Results illustrate the differences in youth experiences during distinct developmental periods, the importance of various activities, and long-term program impacts. Implications of the findings for future practice and research are discussed.
