Design of a Composting Machine and Analysis of Compost Quality for Sustainable Waste Management
摘要
Sustainable composting aids biodegradable household waste to produce nutrient-rich soil changes while dipping the environmental waste. The purpose of this study is basically to achieve affordable and bio-friendly method of composting by employing general day to day waste organic materials such as kitchen vegetable waste, peels of the fruits, husk of the coconut and egg shells that is calcium rich which enhances the structure of the soil while vegetable and fruit waste helps the soil with basic soil nutrients, coconut husk is included for proper aeration and retention of moisture in the soil. The compost obtained results in rich fertility of the soil and helps in sustainable waste management and thereby helps to avoid synthetic fertilizers which harms both plants and the eco-system. By implementing this decomposition method, it is possible to achieve environmental sustainability by converting waste to useful compost and thereby creating awareness of eco-sustainability. The quality of compost produced after 24 h are tested for its usage as manure. The values of pH, moisture content, nitrogen content and plant growth were checked for its relevant with commercially available vermicompost. Tested values were found to be 8.36, 54.3%, 5.24% and notable increase in size of the plant for batch-1 while 8.25, 55.3%, 4.76% and notable increase in size of the plant for batch-2 respectively. The values obtained were in accordance with the commercially available vermicompost.
