Performance and Economic Study on Solar Still with V-Shaped Jute Cloth Under Different Water Levels and Dropwise Water Feed
摘要
Humankind has long relied on underground water reservoirs to meet fresh water needs, but these sources are not always dependable due to issues like excessive salinity, which makes the water unfit for consumption. To address this challenge, an experimental investigation was conducted to analyze the performance and economic feasibility of a single-slope solar still. The study explored the impact of varying water quantities and feed rates, incorporating a V-shaped jute cloth over the basin to enhance efficiency. This approach aimed to improve freshwater production by optimizing the design and operational parameters of the solar still, offering a sustainable solution to water scarcity in saline-affected areas. The performance of the single slope solar still along with v-shaped jute cloth over the basin was examined with two different water quantities such as 10L, 20L and also with water mass flow rate of about 0.0075 kg/min. The results demonstrated that the daily overall efficiency enhancement was found to be 25.01% for 10L, 21.87% for 20L and 31.64% for dropwise water feed respectively. Furthermore, a comparison showed that water production costs were lower, and the payback period was shorter in the dropwise water feed.
