A New Ethical System, Guided by Coherence and Responsibility, for the Recognition of Intrinsic Value in Nature
摘要
As a logical antecedent to the analysis of the normativity of the principle of harmony with nature, a general ethics capable of grounding an ethics applied to ecology is proposed. Initially, a critical examination of the dualistic ethics inspired by Kantian thought is conducted to demonstrate its inadequacy in addressing the demands of overcoming the ecological crisis, as it hinders the recognition of intrinsic value in nature. Topics of metaethics, such as cognitivism and non-cognitivism; moral consideration, establishing a comparative analysis between different lines of thought about the moral consideration of non-human beings and nature; and concepts of intrinsic value and inherent value are discussed. The theoretical references adopted are the ethical system proposed by Cirne-Lima, that is, the ethics of universal coherence; the ethics of responsibility of Hans Jonas; as well as the concept of strong evaluation by Charles Taylor. In the discussion about the concept of intrinsic and inherent value, the work of Leena Vilkka is examined, which presents a comparative analysis between the theories of Clarence Lewis Irving, Paul Taylor, and Kantian currents. Finally, the chapter concludes with the presentation of a proposal for an applied ethics of harmony with nature.
