Ethiopia is largely a religious country, where 99.4% of its population is known for adhering to one of the major religious establishments (Christianity, inclusive of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, the Ethiopian Catholic Church, and the various Protestant denominations; Islam; and traditional religions). Against the ubiquitous literature that affirms strong interrelationship between religiosity and human flourishing, this chapter aims to show where one would find the Ethiopian faith communities in forging a life of human flourishing or a state of complete well-being. What does the paucity of literature show regarding the contribution of faith/religion to experiencing human flourishing in general and to mental health and/or psychological well-being in particular? This chapter draws the contours of the multidimensional and interdisciplinary nature of human flourishing and, then, depicts what the existing literature has to say on the relationship between the Ethiopian faith communities and human flourishing or a state of complete well-being. While the available literature shows that there are positive relationships between religion and human flourishing, much more has to be done to understand the role of faith on human flourishing across religious divides so that pertinent actions be taken for a robust use of this spiritual resource.
