Introduction
摘要
This book introduces the reader to entrepreneurship in the seven southern-most African countries: Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Each of these has its uniqueness embedded in complex cultural and social systems that are hard to detect at the surface, but nonetheless powerful enough to shape entrepreneurship within these countries (Simba, 2024). Dana (1995) describes how the heterogeneity of entrepreneurship requires scholars, commentators, policy institutions, and practitioners to comprehend fully the context in which entrepreneurship is unfolding. Indeed, entrepreneurship does not take place in a vacuum—but rather involves interactions among members of a society, and within that context heterogeneity must not be overlooked. As a continent, Africa is very diverse and heterogeneity in entrepreneurship has existed prior to and during colonial rule and to this day.
