The liberal naturalist approaches metaphysics by taking a science-oriented approach and unifying the different scientific domains. The existence of real patterns can be seen as one such metaphysical claim. In contrast to the eliminativist, all levels of reality are taken as real. This leads to a paradoxical situation of how it is that the entities in each of these domains are on the one hand real and on the other hand independent of each other. A solution to this problem would be to give the subject some significance in the metaphysical framework envisioned. This has not, however, been done despite there being no good naturalist justification for omitting this option.
