This chapter provides an account of a recent visual interpretation of Robert Tressell’s work (The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists. Grant Richards, London, 1914) in a graphic novel format by the Rickard Sisters and considers its significance for education and learning at moments of social upheaval. Using the theory and practice of critical creativity, we argue that The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists (RTP) was essentially a pedagogical tool for the political education of working people, and its reincarnation in graphic novel format highlights and reinvigorates this purpose. We examine learning practices derived from the RTP, including those from our own experience as arts-based researchers and educators concerned with social justice. We discuss the ways in which the socialism advocated and translated in this interpretation maintains its pertinence and potency as a pedagogical apparatus in our current times.

摘要
