This introductory chapter outlines the scope of the book. It describes the wide range of authors, many from an international context, who bring correspondingly diverse cultural perceptions to bear on important aspects of creative and social learning practices. The chapter explains how this network of learners and educators from organisations and universities across Europe and beyond have shared research through Research into Education, Creativity and Arts through Practice (RECAP), a progressive arts-based research centre, administered from the University of Chester in the UK. This chapter discusses the way that the book draws together international and interdisciplinary research into socially engaged, relational and critical creative practices.
