This chapter summarizes the results of a systematic meta-synthesis of ISSPP case study research conducted over the past 20 years in nine of the participating countries. Evidence was provided about 95 successful principals in 69 peer-reviewed articles. Results describe how successful principals, over time, successfully navigate the many challenges posed by the multiple layers of the contexts in which they work, drawing upon their personal and professional resources and agency as they adapt and apply their educational purposes, values, strategies, and practices.
