The present chapter synthesizes the legal and support mechanisms available to acid attack survivors, exploring both preventive measures and recovery strategies. The chapter delves into the legal framework that addresses acid violence. It scrutinizes the sections 326A and 326B of the Indian Penal Code. Additionally, it explores the improvement that the new criminal law code, ‘Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita’, has to offer over the law code of the colonial era. It further examines the regulations governing acid sales, recognizing the need to curb easy access to corrosive substances. A critical aspect of the legal framework is the Victims Compensation Scheme, which ensures free medical treatment, rehabilitation, and financial compensation for survivors. Furthermore, the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, is analysed for its role in granting acid attack survivors access to educational, employment, and social security benefits. Furthermore, the chapter addresses ongoing efforts to strengthen existing laws, including stricter acid sale regulations, faster compensation disbursement, and enhanced protection against social stigma and discrimination. The chapter serves as a guide to the various resources available to survivors, including NGOs, support groups, psychological counselling, legal aid, financial assistance, and livelihood opportunities. By providing a holistic view of prevention strategies and support mechanisms, this chapter aims to empower survivors by helping them rebuild their lives and reclaim their strength.
