The chapter highlights the strength of the media portrayals in shaping the societal perceptions of this crime and its survivors and calls for a more nuanced and humanized portrayal. The chapter sheds light on the mentions of acid attacks in early literature. While the more recent books and films do amplify the voices of the survivors, many of them continue to sensationalize the victims’ disfigurement. Thus, perpetuating stigma. Briefly the chapter touches upon the underrepresentation of male victims of acid attacks in the media. It also briefly highlights photography and art as alternative mediums that showcase the strength and resilience of the victims. The chapter advocates for depicting themes of agency, resilience, and talent of these victims through critical engagement with media portrayals to ensure an inclusive environment for the victims.
