The challenges posed by the underlying mechanisms related to renal complications during pregnancy pave in way to build in periconceptional care that can ensure good maternal and fetal outcomes. The rates of acute kidney injury in pregnancy are generally declining worldwide, but remain to be a significant public health concern in most of the developing countries. The pregnancy period may also be the first time that a woman is diagnosed for pursuing a renal disease or hypertension. A pre-existing heart disease or nephropathy, even if well controlled, can in fact become sluggish or worsen as a result of the physiological adaptation induced by pregnancy. Intervening such crucial progressions and understanding their clinical management is of much importance.
