Lenny was a “keen” and healthy 70-year-old who was facing a challenging colorectal resection and a prostate biopsy. Recently, his wife reported some memory loss which Lenny attributed to aging. Lenny was now at an age where health issues could include postoperative delirium, aspiration, urosepsis, adverse drug reactions, pressure ulcers, malnutrition, falls, and failure to ambulate and rehabilitate. Postoperative delirium and postoperative cognition were his most significant concerns. When he woke up from anesthesia, he was agitated and restless. He did not respond to nursing requests and exhibited an acute disturbed state of mind with confusion, disorientation, and hallucinations.
