Alpha-1-Antitrypsin Deficiency
摘要
Kevin endured Acute Myelocytic Leukemia in the first year of medical school with a harrowing but successful bone marrow transplant. During his fourth year of medical school, Kevin developed shortness of breath, weight loss, jaundice, and was physically impaired. He could not walk up a flight of stairs without extreme shortness of breath. A hepatologist presented the big picture after blood tests and imaging. Kevin had significant COPD and liver failure. Alpha-1-antitrypsin disease fit perfectly and matched Kevin’s workup.
