Anesthesia for Carcinoid Syndrome
摘要
Jen started her path of illnesses at age 16 with a bad dose of Anorexia Nervosa. Her body image was so distorted that she would rock back and forth in her bed to burn calories. Each meal ended with a finger down her throat. With intense therapy, she improved just in time to go to college. In her third year of college, she presented to the emergency room with a severe attack of asthma requiring time on a ventilator. She was weaned off the ventilator and developed severe diarrhea. A suggestion of a medical student proposed a diagnosis of Carcinoid Syndrome. A PET scan revealed sources in the lung and small bowel. She was treated with somatostatin analogs. After a small bowel and lung resection, she was disease-free with a continuous plan of surveillance.
