A 17-year-old male presented to the emergency room with severe respiratory distress. He arrived alone without any identification. A nurse recognized his language as being Creole and was able to translate. The boy was Haitian and was sent by his uncle to the United States. He did not know his address or phone number. His chief complaint was that he was progressively short of breath within minutes after his soccer game started. He was placed on the heart transplant list.
