The basic characteristics of the lateral leadership concept are developed. It will become clear why the concept rests on power, trust and understanding as central mechanisms of influence; at the same time, the list is open for expansions. Unlike other leadership concepts, it is obvious that the idea does not focus merely on minor tactics in an organization’s informal side; instead, the connection to the formal structure is systematically developed.
