The crucial aim of feeding tube placement (FTP) is to guarantee adequate nutritional intake in patients who experience the inability to take food through the mouth. FTP is mainly indicated in neuromuscular diseases (NMD) as muscular weakness commonly causes malnutrition. As the disease progresses, respiratory function is impaired as well, and mechanical ventilation is crucial to sustain hemodynamic gas exchange. Performing FTP using noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) is now a common procedure in patients who experience malnutrition and impaired ventilatory function. Here, we review the indications, methodology, and prognosis of the use of NPPV during FTP.

摘要
