This chapter explores the diverse contexts for adult civic learning, noting its predominantly optional and informal nature, unlike youth civic education. It highlights social structures like workplaces and community organizations as significant venues, shaping democratic ideals. The chapter categorizes venues into formal (educational institutions), non-formal (community workshops), and informal spaces (public squares, digital platforms), emphasizing the learning through action and community engagement. Workplaces, despite hierarchical structures, can foster civic learning through democratic practices, while social movements provide experiential learning in power dynamics and collective action. Civic society organizations in the third sector offer platforms for civic activity and therefore civic learning. The chapter concludes by advocating a principle-oriented approach to adult civic learning, transcending specific contexts to focus on core guiding principles.

摘要
