Vocal fold polyps are a common cause of hoarseness in otolaryngology practice. They occur predominantly in men in their fourth and fifth decades, with phonotrauma being the main risk factor [1–3]. In a meta-analysis that included 21 studies, Kwok et al. noted that professional singers were twice as likely to develop vocal fold polyps (OR = 2.1) compared to non-singers [4]. The pathophysiology of vocal fold polyps is multifaceted. One suggested mechanism is an increase in the phonatory stress, which in turn leads to an increase in vocal fold intravascular pressure, bleeding, and high-protein fluid exudation into the lamina propria [5, 6].
