Autoimmune diseases can affect all components of the phonatory system including the larynx. There is growing evidence in the literature suggesting an increase in the prevalence of voice and swallowing disorders in patients with autoimmune disorders. It is estimated that two out of three patients may present with a change in voice quality or vocal fatigue [1]. This is not surprising given that the larynx, similar to other musculoskeletal structures in the body, consists of muscles and diarthrodial joints.
