Hybrid Human-AI Intelligence: A Vision for Innovation & Higher Education’s Future
摘要
As demonstrated in Chap. 1 , higher education is grappling with unprecedented disruptions and opportunities fueled by evolving AI capabilities, demographic shifts, and financial pressures. This chapter focuses on building some logic and rationale around concrete frameworks, methods, and guidelines to ethically and effectively integrate Generative AI (GenAI) into teaching, learning, assessment, research, and administration. It builds on the reality that GenAI can be used as a strategic partner and transform academic practices when embraced with strategic planning, diverse multi-stakeholder engagement, a clear vision, empathy, and human-centric design—core elements of design thinking (Brown, 2019), structured change management (Kotter et al., 2021), the core frameworks of this book (see the Human-AI Collaboration & Synergy Guide available for download). The sections below explore the logic for pursuing hybrid human-AI intelligence—a synergistic combination of human and machine capabilities—while acknowledging critiques regarding the limits of current AI cognition and the complexities of achieving ethical human-AI partnerships that advance and empower humans. This exploration suggests that navigating the challenges facing higher education may necessitate sustainable partnerships with AI, engaging with advanced systems like Large Language Models (LLMs), and the models soon to proceed them, as strategic collaborators.
