Analgesia for Ankle and Foot Surgery
摘要
Patients often present for foot and ankle surgery following trauma. This leads to significant postoperative pain. Tibial and peroneal nerve branches supply the ankle. Various regional nerve block techniques like sciatic nerve block, popliteal nerve block, femoral nerve block and ankle block are available to provide perioperative analgesia. We have a variety of peripheral nerve blocks in addition to central neuraxial blocks. Ultrasound-guided ankle block provides analgesia for surgery and postoperative period. In addition to regional blocks a combination of various analgesic drugs should be used to provide an effective multimodal analgesia. One should be careful in using regional block in setting of acute compartment syndrome. We have discussed various analgesia options for ankle and foot surgery in this chapter.
