Human-nature connections have been changing, specifically in children. Technology-mediated experiences are gaining ground in literature, exploring the possibilities for promoting environmental awareness. Location-based mobile applications are designed to foster nature interaction through outdoor activities involving children, such as observing, recording or identifying natural elements. This represents both challenges and opportunities to understand how users interact and move in nature, guided by screen-based devices, bridging the gap between digital and physical environments. This paper focuses on exploring data logs from users’ interaction with a plant identification mobile application, the Oh!Bug app, while identifying vegetal species at the University of Aveiro. To establish a methodological framework for log data analysis, we conducted a user study involving seven adult participants, all over the age of 30. We used Tableau Prep and Tableau Desktop to prepare and clean the data. Our log analysis contributed to understanding user engagement in technology-mediated environmental activities, offering valuable insights on visualizing users’ journeys and mapping their paths throughout natural settings.
