The importance of environmental education in today’s society cannot be overemphasised. Environmental communication programmes have an obligation to educate the current generation and future generations about the need of maintaining and safeguarding the environment in light of the numerous ecological issues threatening it, including pollution, deforestation, and climate change. Environmental communication is essential to this education process because it raises awareness of environmental issues and motivates people to take action. The primary focus of this chapter is the function of environmental communication in education. The first part of the chapter looks at the role that environmental communication plays in raising public awareness of environmental issues. The chapter then discusses how environmental communication shapes academic curricula by raising awareness about environmental issues and promoting sustainability. The chapter ends by highlighting some of the successful initiatives in integrating environmental communication in education.
