There are challenges and opportunities for environmental communication in Africa when it comes to conveying the importance of sustainability and environmental protection. Despite the continent’s natural splendour, ecological significance, and rich cultural diversity, there are a number of barriers to effective communication that need to be overcome. Nevertheless, if the right strategies and tactics are applied, positive change and greater understanding of Africa’s environmental problems are achievable. This chapter discusses challenges to environmental communication in Africa followed by significant opportunities for environmental communication in addressing environmental issues.
