The Sanctuary of the Icona Passatora located in Amatrice (Ri), fraction of Ferrazza will soon be the subject of repair work following the damage caused by the 2016 earthquake in Central Italy. The building is subject to conservative protection, and the Special Superintendence in 2022 promoted the post-seismic repair project, described below, which aims to restore the masonry structure and improve its behaviour with respect to telluric stresses. Safety measures were promptly and repeatedly carried out; also, due to this immediate structural rescue, the building, although heavily damaged, did not suffer any collapse losses. The painted surfaces, tested by historical earthquakes, suffered further losses, which, with the emergency measures, were collected in fragments. Based on the extensive investigations, the major deficiencies were determined and the intervention project was directed towards restoring the functionality of the building, while respecting its cultural values. The seismic verification concerned the sanctuary, consisting of the apsidal church and adjacent rooms, sacristy and oratory, analysed with overall and local verifications. In particular, the interventions were strongly limited and directed by the desire to fully respect the internal wall decorations that constitute a significant value of the asset. In fact, the system of consolidation operations is based, above all, in the realisation of an external encircling device of the wall box to be realised with FRP tapes.
