Captar-Libras: A Bidirectional Translator with a Photorealistic Avatar for Medical Pre-consultation of Deaf Patients
摘要
Communication between deaf individuals and healthcare professionals is a complex process that requires effective solutions to overcome language barriers and promote autonomy. The Captar-Libras project developed a system to support bidirectonal communication in pre-medical care, featuring the translation of Libras into Brazilian Portuguese and in the other direction by a photorealistic avatar that signs in Libras the translation of Brazilian Portuguese, providing an experience closer to human interaction than with animated characters. The system enables the translation from text or audio in Brazilian Portuguese into Libras, as well as the conversion of videos in Libras into Brazilian Portuguese. User evaluations indicate the solution’s potential to reduce communication barriers in medical contexts, emphasizing its social impact and relevance to the field of Human-Computer Interaction.
