Research on Dark or Deceptive Patterns (DPs) primarily focuses on WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, Democratic) contexts, leaving the understanding of DPs in the Global South largely unexamined. This study analyzes DPs in 100 trending Android applications (apps) in Brazil. The results showed that 96% of the apps have at least one DP, averaging 7.51 DPs per app, and 46% of them contain at least 7 DPs. We identified six previously unreported DP cases in the Brazilian context, demonstrating novel applications of known DPs. We compared our results with previous studies conducted in Japanese and American contexts, examining common subclasses and approaches to addressing the identified differences in culture, wealth, and education.

摘要
