This chapter integrates the six core elements discussed in the previous chapter into a single configuration. The identifier, file type, software, firmware, hardware and producers/readers are understood in terms of a stack, with each layer mutually affecting those above and below it. The chapter also considers the concept of compatibility as a sociocultural concern, showing how the connections between the layers of the stack can have positive or negative impacts and produce conditions of inclusion and exclusion.

摘要

This chapter integrates the six core elements discussed in the previous chapter into a single configuration. The identifier, file type, software, firmware, hardware and producers/readers are understood in terms of a stack, with each layer mutually affecting those above and below it. The chapter also considers the concept of compatibility as a sociocultural concern, showing how the connections between the layers of the stack can have positive or negative impacts and produce conditions of inclusion and exclusion.
