Business Process Automation (BPA) is a core element for digital transformation in companies. However, companies still face challenges as the knowledge is fragmented, and there is a lack of structured guidance on implementing BPA effectively. Therefore, we conduct a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) that explores the current state of research on frameworks, key factors, and technologies in the context of BPA. The aim is to provide an abstract introduction to the necessary components for successful BPA implementation and to illustrate the scope and diversity of BPA. We analyzed 40 studies from 2019 to 2024, identified 24 frameworks, extracted 32 key success factors, and revealed the most used technologies in the BPA environment. In detail, we highlight the relevance of a strong data culture, strategic leadership, change management, targeted technology investment, and a measurable, structured implementation process. Compared to existing literature, our work offers a holistic perspective on BPA by combining frameworks, key factors, and technology insights.
