Impact of E-Cigarettes on the Neurologic System
摘要
The impact of e-cigarette smoking on the neurologic system is significant. The most commonly reported symptoms are headache, dizziness, irritability, anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Vaping has also been implicated in the exacerbation of new-onset seizures. These adverse neurologic events have been attributed to the chemical compounds in e-cigarettes, including nicotine. Nicotine-induced neurologic effects include addiction, cognitive dysfunction, neuroinflammation, and neurogenic developmental dysfunction. Nicotine also has a substantial impact on the limbic-dopaminergic system, which plays a crucial role in regulating reward-driven behaviors and emotions. Understanding the adverse effects of electronic nicotine delivery systems on the brain in adolescents is of paramount importance.
