This concluding chapter synthesizes the book’s central thesis: the rise of the evangelical far-right in Brazil represents a new “battle between the gods,” born from the catastrophic collapse of modernization. It critiques anthropological interpretations that reduce this phenomenon to a media effect, arguing instead that it is a real religious consciousness formed in a context of violence and social dissolution. The starless sky of postmodernity, as described by Elsa Tamez, is re-read as the abyss of a failed national project. The chapter positions the philosophy of Olavo de Carvalho as the key theoretical articulation of this moment. Carvalho’s critique of modernity, his call for a return to intuition over reason, and his vision of a spiritual battle against a secular state find an “elective affinity” with the Pentecostal experience. This Evangelical-Olavoist project, which gained social force after 2013, provides the theological and imaginary forms for understanding the crises of a deconstructing nation.
