Colorectal cancer is a leading cause of cancer mortality in the West with about half of all patients with the disease either presenting with or later developing liver metastasis. Once considered a terminal disease, colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) can now be treated with a range of primary and adjunct therapies, though surgical resection offers the greatest potential for cure. Advances in preoperative optimization, accurate prognostication, and surgical technique have improved the long-term survival of those undergoing resection, all while allowing patients with more extensive disease to be candidates for intervention.
