Introduction
摘要
This book addresses the nuances of urban Africa, trends and outlook at a time of a dynamic global system. The choice to focus on the opportunities and complexities of urban transitions in Africa is because the continent is first urbanizing, registering high economic growth, but still entangled in historically rooted dependencies, despite its natural wealth. The book frames urban transitions as dynamic and complex processes shaped by various social, political, economic, and environmental factors. In this book, the process of transition is used to refer to the shifts in urban management and development across the continent, including the technologies, modalities of financing, and recentering people to build equitable cities that can spur inclusive, sustainable, and resilient cities. The time for a fast-paced urban transition on the African continent is now. This is due to the current global crises of increasing impacts of climate change, geopolitical misalignments, as well as increased right-wing populism in Europe and America, leading to uncertainties for long-standing development financing, and the global imperative for energy transition.
