Digitalization and climate neutrality are the current global mega trends, in which autonomous transportation can provide solutions. This paper presents the Turku University of Applied Sciences test vessel eM/S Salama and the related remote operations center for autonomous maritime research. We briefly describe the status of autonomy in maritime environments, the related technologies, our test infrastructure and the future research directions. The test vessel sensoring system is also used to collect data, which will be published in annotated open access datasets for machine learning.
