This theoretical paper examines how the gender identity and social status of women garment workers in Bangladesh are being criminalized as a result of natural disasters, within the context of neoliberal economic globalization. This analysis aims to explore how various factors—such as disaster-induced push factors, migration status, gender identity, experiences of violence, and rights violations—intersect in the lives of women garment workers in Bangladesh. All arguments in this article are made by using few gender lenses such as structural violence, institutional and group theory models which are grounded in patriarchal structure in our society. Major arguments include that while neoliberal economy has offered profound opportunities for women in terms of access to labor market participation and therefore empowerment, this process has led to several vulnerabilities through multiple oppressions or violence and thus expedite the process of criminalizing their identity and status of women garment workers. Moreover, they are exposed to the continuing violation of their rights and thereby they are struggling to fight for their rights after confronting with multiple oppression due to their migration status and gender identity and the process of criminalizing is being progressed.
