The pretemporal approach is a neurosurgical technique that combines elements of the pterional, subtemporal, and temporopolar approaches to provide comprehensive access to deep-seated brain regions, such as the interpeduncular and petroclival areas. This method involves frontotemporal craniotomy, allowing surgeons to navigate through the Sylvian fissure and temporal lobe to reach target areas with minimal brain retraction. The approach is particularly beneficial for treating complex aneurysms and tumors located in challenging regions [1–3]. Moreover, the pretemporal approach slightly expands craniotomy to the temporal bone while maintaining an approximately 1:1 ratio between frontal and temporal bone exposure (Fig. 10.1). This balanced exposure optimizes surgical access to the interpeduncular and petroclival regions while minimizing brain retraction.

摘要
