The chapter explores various traditional water conservation structures of the Kangra Valley in Himachal Pradesh. These structures were built by the local communities using indigenous wisdom passed through generations and adaptability to face any harsh conditions. They also set a unique example of community participation in managing their natural resources sustainably. However, over time, these structures are losing their importance, facing lack of communities’ participation and thus are under unprecedented pressures. These indigenous structures are important as they not only provide water but are also imperative to combat water and food scarcity, necessitating their significance amid current challenges posed by unpredictable climate change. This chapter examines the existing traditional water conservation practices in the Kangra Valley and their role in valley dweller’s livelihoods.
