In this chapter we frame the design of complex systems as an exercise in architecting a satisficing strategy. We use that strategy to address uncertainty, promote adaptability, and respond to evolving requirements. Designers now leverage technologies such as RFID, the Internet of Things, and AI, including large language models, to guide industry beyond the Industry 4.0 paradigm and into successive generations. Designers find that these tools expand available options while also introducing new layers of complexity in decision making and system evolution.
