Competitive examinations lay a strong foundation for a fair education system that opens doors for higher education and professional opportunities for millions of young minds. Since the Covid times, online exams have emerged as a popular tool for assessment and have been widely used. However, challenges like the leaking of question papers threaten the sanctity of online examinations. This is a long-term problem that has hugely impacted on the credibility of examination systems across the world, eroding public confidence in fair and transparent evaluation. This study presents a blockchain-based framework that provides real-time proctoring and integrates cryptographic encryption algorithms like AES and RSA to prevent data theft. The integration of blockchain technology in the framework further ensures the security and transparency of the proposed system. The process of examination is recorded completely on the blockchain, making a permanent and tamper-proof record. Sensitive data, such as question papers and answer keys, are not accessible to unauthorized access since encryption keys have been stored and distributed in a decentralized blockchain network. Moreover, the system also uses artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to ensure that each paper presents a different set of questions to the users and reduces the possibility of exam paper breaches. Also, the framework facilitates AI-based proctoring and real-time monitoring such that any manipulation of examination results can be identified easily and further investigated. This research therefore reveals new opportunities for the use of emerging technology for securing online examination systems and promoting fair evaluation.
