Continuing from the previous two chapters, this chapter deals with a third group of DEM-derived topographic indices. Seven indices related to topographic protection and exposure to wind are presented. From topography, one can infer an area’s exposure to or protection from wind action. This analysis is relevant for different environmental studies, such as analyses of the spatial distribution of atmospheric pollutants, the occurrence and distribution of plant species, the potential for wind energy utilization, spatial patterns of snow accumulation, and climate forecasts.

摘要

Continuing from the previous two chapters, this chapter deals with a third group of DEM-derived topographic indices. Seven indices related to topographic protection and exposure to wind are presented. From topography, one can infer an area’s exposure to or protection from wind action. This analysis is relevant for different environmental studies, such as analyses of the spatial distribution of atmospheric pollutants, the occurrence and distribution of plant species, the potential for wind energy utilization, spatial patterns of snow accumulation, and climate forecasts.
