In the digital age, when social media platforms dominate the media panorama, it is easy to undervalue the importance of traditional media in distributing vital information. This is especially true regarding urgent matters such as the prevention of gender-based violence. Although new media platforms offer instant communication and a large audience, traditional media remains vital in health communication programmes for the prevention of gender-based violence, including those who live in remote and rural areas. This chapter starts by presenting a brief understanding of traditional media. This is followed by a discussion on the role of tradition media in health communication programmes for the prevention of gender-based violence. Then the chapter discusses how community outreach programmes can be used in health communication programmes for the prevention of gender-based violence followed by a discussion on the potential of indigenous communication tools in the prevention of gender-based violence.
